MD2 Pineapple is a hybrid of MD-2 and Queen pineapples. MD2 Pineapples are known for their sweet and juicy pulp, and thick skin. They are a popular choice for fresh consumption, juicing, and canning. MD2 Pineapples were first developed in the 1980s by the Department of Agriculture of the Philippines. The goal of the breeding program was to create a pineapple that was resistant to diseases and pests and had high yield. MD2 Pineapples were released to the public in 1990.
